Steve's Snappin' Dogs-City Park

Last night, for our second venture out, we went to go experience Steve's Snappin' Dogs.

This place was Hannah's idea, she has been there once before a while back with her family. Turns out it was pretty good! I think that everyone should know that I have never, until last night, had a hot dog at a restaurant, hot dog places aren't readily available here in Denver. Anyway, this place is easy to find, right off Colfax, and it has a great exterior, classic and "old-school," gotta love it. Service was great, we were greeted right when we walked in. Being that it's a hot dog place, it's not a sit down, so the atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. The menu is simple, straight forward and well organized, so it was easy (besides the near overwhelming amount of options) to pick your meal of choice. The one downside that I found was that after we ordered it was a good 10 minutes until our food was ready, but then again, that just means that it's freshly prepared. I chose to enjoy a "Dallas Dog" which is simply a chili-dog with cheese. Hannah and I decided it was best for us to share french fries and a chocolate malt. Once I got the food it looked delicious and I couldn't wait to dig in, with a fork and knife of course since there was so much chili on top (yum!). You could tell that the hot dog was fresh, it had a "snap" to each bite (thus the name), not something that I was used to, but definitely a good change. The french fries were pretty generic, nothing super special there, but the malt, the malt was delicious. I would have to say that the chocolate malt that Hannah and I shared was the best part of the meal! Overall, the adventure to Steve's was a good night, good atmosphere, good food, and a good price.

My experience at Steve's!

I would NOT recommend the "Chicago-style" dog. It had bright green relish (weird), pickles, super spicy peppers, and too much celery salt. I couldn't even taste the hot dog, and I have never in my life had a hot dog with those toppings in Chicago. Stick with a plain hot dog with ketchup. I am used to Chicago's best-Portillos hot dogs, so Steve's Snappin' Dogs were more like Steve's Crappin' Dogs to me. I did read on their menu that they do not use artificial fillers, so I give them props for that! Also, they have a gigantic Cholula hot sauce pumper (like ketchup) by the condiments. That's my kind of place! And if you want an amazing chocolate malt-this place is definitely worth the drive down Colfax.

Bang!-Highlands Square

The first of our adventures on our journey to know and love Denver. Bang, the restaurant that inspired it all.

http://denveronebiteatatime.blogspot.com/

What draws you into Bang is the sidewalk-facing kitchen, but then there's a confusing and slightly "sketchy" entrance into the restaurant, but the inside seating area is cozy and nice, yet still comfortable. We were welcomed right when we walked in the door, and once we were seated we were waited on almost before we had a chance to look at the menu. The menu is short and concise, which makes for an easy decision on what to eat. I chose something simple and familiar, a burger and fries. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to dive in, it looked so good. It was served with a side of homemade barbeque sauce, for dipping purposes. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly to my order, medium well. Topped with cheese, it had the perfect contrast of a crisped outside and tender interior, with a perfectly toasted bun. The french fries were sprinkled with fresh parsley and were perfectly salted and cooked. The barbeque sauce brought everything together, harmonizing the meal perfectly.

Throughout the meal the server checked on us just often enough, adding to the great atmosphere that Bang offers. Overall, I would suggest to anyone to go eat at Bang.

My experience at Bang!

This little restaurant in Highlands has a big, welcoming window viewing into the kitchen but is set up inefficiently. In order to enter the building, you have to walk down a tiny alley-kinda creepy and uninviting!! The atmosphere is nice-tables for two everywhere. It’s quiet and small. The service is very good. The menu had enticing options, but I was in the mood for some comfort food. My dish was pulled pork with jalepeno corn bread. Corn bread-very yummy; pork-not as good as my mother’s, but there were still no leftovers. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. I probably won’t be a regular there, but if I were to go back, I would definitely try out their breakfast. The orange cinnamon french toast with a mimosa..mm!! Now we’re talkin’.

I’m still wondering why it’s called “Bang!”.
